Smart MCs was pleased to participate in BioJapan 2026, held from 7–9 October at PACIFICO Yokohama, Japan, as part of the Australian Pavilion, Booth D-95.
Representing Smart MCs were Dr Payar Radfar, CEO and Co-Founder, and Daisy Jane Toting, Scientific Lead, who attended the three-day event to showcase the company’s biomaterial technologies and connect with researchers, biotechnology companies and potential industry partners from Japan and around the world.
BioJapan is one of Asia’s leading biotechnology partnering events, bringing together organisations across pharmaceutical development, regenerative medicine, cell therapy and biomanufacturing to exchange ideas, showcase emerging technologies and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Showcasing Advanced Cell Culture and Biomaterial Technologies
Throughout BioJapan 2026, Smart MCs presented its portfolio of microcarriers, hydrogels and microfluidic technologies, developed to support research and manufacturing applications across the biotechnology and biomedical sectors.
Our microcarrier technologies provide customisable surfaces for adherent cell culture, supporting scalable cell expansion in bioreactors. With synthetic and dissolvable options, these technologies are designed for applications including cell therapy manufacturing, vaccine production and large-scale bioprocessing.
Our hydrogel technologies include a range of functional biomaterials for three-dimensional (3D) cell culture, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and biomedical research.
We also introduced our microfluidic solutions, covering applications such as droplet generation, cell sorting, microfabrication and other advanced laboratory processes.
Connecting with Japan’s Biotechnology and Research Community
BioJapan provided valuable opportunities for the Smart MCs team to engage with researchers, biotechnology companies and manufacturers seeking innovative solutions for their research and production needs.
Discussions throughout the event focused on challenges in scalable cell culture, biomaterial selection and the development of practical technologies for biomedical research and manufacturing.
These conversations also provided insights into the needs of Japan’s biotechnology sector and opened opportunities for further technical discussions and potential research and commercial partnerships.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Investment NSW and Austrade for their invitation, coordination and support in facilitating connections between Australian biotechnology companies and the Japanese market.
Strengthening Australia–Japan Biotechnology Connections
Smart MCs’ participation in BioJapan formed part of a broader Japan roadshow from 6–16 October 2026, including research and industry meetings across Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto and Osaka.
Through these engagements, Smart MCs aims to strengthen relationships with Japanese research institutions and biotechnology companies, better understand local research and manufacturing requirements, and explore opportunities for future cooperation.
We sincerely thank everyone who visited our booth at BioJapan 2026 and took the time to connect with our team. We look forward to continuing these discussions and building on the connections established during our visit to Japan.
